Acupuncture is a traditional form of medicine that is based on Qi (otherwise known as energy) and its flow through our body in pathways called meridians. These meridians have special features in that they run similar in path as our circulatory or nervous systems. During acupuncture treatment, specific points are stimulated with needles to trigger the release of certain neurotransmitters and other messages to and from our brain that initiate healing mechanisms in our bodies. At times, the meridians are blocked with stagnant Qi and the needles help to alleviate the release of blockages as well.
Acupuncture is totally safe, has been scientifically proven to be effective and has minimal side effects, there is no downtime after treatment. Some of the minimal side effects one may experience are relaxation, energy boost and possibly (though very rarely) slight bruising at the needle insertion sight.
The benefits of this treatment outweigh the risks.
