October is Mental Health Awareness Month.
Mental health is a topic close to my heart because I have had my share of mental health issues.
I have a history of complex trauma, abuse, addiction and a head injury.
All pretty major risk factors.

So how do I stay sane? Trust me, it's work.
Meditation, eating well, fitness, yoga, prayer, so much more...

MY SELF CARE GAME IS STRONG!

The truth is that mental health is an ongoing process that needs guidance and support, diagnosed or not.

If your mental health has suffered (especially lately), know that you are not alone.

Many of us have mental health concerns, but most of us don’t talk about it!

There is power in vulnerability, so speak up and be vulnerable.

Allow yourself to be seen and heard.

I used to feel ashamed about my mental health, but guess what?

I don’t anymore because I know we are all trying our best to cope!

Here are some tips to help yourself and your loved ones:

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Always check in with yourself and be sure to prioritize your well-being

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Take care of your basic needs; food, rest, movement

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Make time in your schedule for self care practices

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Do things that bring you joy

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Don't take anything personal - we are all going through something these days

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Always check in on your loved ones, a "how are you?" message goes a long way

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Never belittle your or your loved ones feelings, it is a real issue

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Be patient with yourself and your loved ones' struggles, healing takes time and everyone's journey is different

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ If your loved one is having a hard time, say: "How can I support you?" or "How can I help?” (ask yourself the same things)

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Always ask politely if your loved one is available for a chat before emotionally dumping on them: "Having a hard day, can you talk?”

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ If someone is having a bad day and taking it out on you, excuse yourself politely "I'm not sure I can talk now, let's catch up later”

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Offer a hug or other physical sign of affection when someone needs it, even YOU!

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Reach out when you need support; friend, relative, therapist, professional

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ Don't be afraid of being vulnerable, it’s a sign of courage and power

πŸ‘‰πŸ½ If you’re having a hard time, never underestimate the power of a walk, a good cry, journaling and good music

Here are some self care practices if you are struggling with mental health:

πŸ‘‰πŸ½see a therapist

πŸ‘‰πŸ½call a crisis line

πŸ‘‰πŸ½get acupuncture

πŸ‘‰πŸ½do some yoga

πŸ‘‰πŸ½go for a run

πŸ‘‰πŸ½go hiking

πŸ‘‰πŸ½take nature walks

πŸ‘‰πŸ½get a massage

πŸ‘‰πŸ½take supplements (often imbalanced moods are just a nutrient deficiency, you’ll need guidance for this)

πŸ‘‰πŸ½do some journaling

πŸ‘‰πŸ½talk to someone
